Twenty-Seven Years

There is much to be said for LETTING GO

and LETTING GOD point the way!

I know 27 years of continuous sobriety may sound like a really long time to some of you. I know it did to me when I was fresh in recovery. Heck, even 10 years sounded like forever to me back then!

But what is even more amazing to me is that in 6 weeks I will turn 73!

I never thought I would live to see 21!

I tried to check out when I was 16, but my Creator had something different in mind for me. And so here I am today to acknowledge that no matter what we think we want to be or to have in life, "there is ONE who has all power" and he has a plan for each and every one of us!

I know it doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I have heard a number of people declare that even though they wanted nothing to do with this life and wished they had never been born... they reached a point like I did... where they realized that no matter how hard they tried to check out... either directly or on "the installment plan," they couldn't leave. That is when I - and others like me - "ceased fighting everything and everyone"... and "made a decision" to "let go and let God" show us the path He wants us to take.

This opened my eyes to the fact that there are times when "Quitters" actually DO WIN! So when I quit "going against the grain" of what God had in store for me, I began to see and understand things very differently.

Has the path to meaning and purpose for my life been easy? Absolutely not!

But on this journey I have come to know and understand that "NOTHING in life EVER comes easy! A price must be paid. A sacrifice must be made.

FOR ME, the reward of finally being willing to think and live according to God's Good Will for me... is immeasurable!

For today, I finally have something to look forward to!
